History & Culture
Okinawa was once a proud kingdom. The Ryukyu Kingdom was destroyed by Satsuma 150 years ago. Including the subsequent ground battles by the United States, Okinawa's history has been one of turbulent times, caught between many countries geopolitically.
However, even then, Okinawan faith and culture never died out. Rather, it is precisely because they have overcome such times that they continue to shine even brighter. Now, feel with your senses the strong and beautiful soul that is filled with "umui" (spirit/spirit).
A Stroll Through Nakijin Castle, a World Heritage Site
Nakijin Castle was a castle ruled by the King of Hokuzan 700 years ago.
This area has a rich history of engaging in overseas trade and other activities even before the establishment of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
It is also the castle where cherry blossoms bloom earliest in Japan.
As you walk along the ancient Hanta Trail and across Mount Otowa, the timeless "umui" (sacred spirit) that has transcended the ages quietly comes back to life. Listening to history and offering prayers at the sacred site, your mind and body gently unwind.

A stroll through the Bise settlement in Imadomari.
Why not visit the Fukugi trees and take a stroll through this quiet village?
In the northern region, Fukugi windbreaks were planted to protect people’s lives from strong winds. Even today, their beauty remains exceptional.
As you walk through the dappled sunlight, the sight of traditional houses peeking out from the trees and the coral reef scenery gently touches your heart, creating moments that will take your breath away.
In recent years, the villages of the northern region have garnered global attention as “Blue Zones” and centers of well-being.

Prayer and Stroll through the Sacred Grove
Okinawa is home to an astonishing number of places of prayer. Since ancient times, shamans have existed, known as Noro, Kaminchu, and Yuta, who have quietly conveyed the voices of the unseen world. A distinctive feature is the Kami Asagi, a simple prayer space with only a roof, unique to the northern part of the island. Like the Utaki, which are places of nature worship, one can feel the profound spirit of the sacred rituals that have been earnestly passed down through generations.
